Jail relationship... Is he using her?

My mother's boyfriend always asks for money on his books. Recently she just bought him 3 subscriptions to men's magazines. He always calls her for things he need such as a 60 dollar watch with a remote control on it and a chain with a cross. She even goes as far as helping to smuggle these "needs" into jail. They say their in love and plan to get married once he is out of jail. I maybe a child looking in but do you feel that I am jealous? He gives great advice and seems ok but is he using her?
