Tales of symphonia 2: dawn of the new world help, OTHERWORD GATE?

I am at chapter 8, and im at the part with that thing with the element signs that takes u down, but it takes me to this room where there is no doors or anything just monsters, and it says "u will need to make a pact" or something along those lines.. wat do i do?
